The Pastel Nine Patch Quilt
American, circa 1930–1950
Cotton patchwork, hand quilting
A delightful example of early twentieth-century American quiltmaking, this Nine Patch variation features a lively arrangement of geometric blocks in soft lavender, rose pink, cornflower blue, butter yellow, and spring green. Delicate floral prints are interspersed with colorful cotton solids, creating a playful patchwork composition against a warm ivory ground.
The distinctive setting gives the traditional Nine Patch motif an almost sculptural quality, with tapered shapes and curved negative spaces forming an intricate secondary pattern. Fine hand quilting follows the contours of the piecing, adding texture, movement, and depth to the surface.
This quilt is thick, and has quite a bit of loft. The backing is a beautiful cream.
The shawl collar allows for several different style options. This jacket is meant to be worn right side up or upside down.
Fit features slouchy shoulders and a generous drape.
As an example, I am 5'7 and wear the classic, while a petite will work best for those 5'4 and smaller :)
